Idea #2: Cookie Jar Fundraising Activity
A great way to raise extra budget dollars for your Children’s Ministry – especially around Christmas time – is to sell simple cookie jar mixes to folks in your congregation. These aesthetically pleasing cookie jar mixes are a great Christmas gift for friends, neighbours, dinner hosts, and school teachers!
What You’ll Need:
- Quart-size canning jars with lids
- Simple cookie jar recipes printed on cardstock
- Cookie mix ingredients purchased in bulk (see recipes)
- Decorative ribbons or fabric
- Cookie jar order forms
- Masking tape and permanent marker
What You’ll Need to Say and Do:
Choose three or four cookie jar recipes and establish a cost for each cookie jar mix. Create an order form for families to fill out or to distribute to friends and neighbours who may also want to place cookie jar mix orders. A few weeks after distributing the order forms, collect the orders and money.
Using some of the money collected, purchase the ingredients and supplies you will need to create the cookie jar mixes. Be sure to tie a decorative ribbon around each jar to which you also attach the corresponding recipe card.
Once all of the cookie jar mixes have been created, place a small piece of masking tape on the top of the jar on which you write the first and last name of the family who ordered each jar. (The masking tape can easily be removed upon successful distribution!) Distribute the cookie jars for two or three weeks prior to Christmas to allow enough time for people to prepare their cookie jar mix gifts for their friends and loved ones.
If you were thrifty in how you purchased ingredients and supplies, and if you thoughtfully priced your cookie jar mixes accordingly, you should be able to make a descent profit to add to your Children’s Ministry budget!
